Chapter 4 Assignments

WHY SCRATCH?

Download, read, and discuss "Learning with Scratch, 21st Century Learning Skills," written by Natalie Rusk, Mitchel Resnick, and John Maloney, Lifelong Kindergarten Group, MIT Media Laboratory

Attached to this assignment.

This paper illustrates how use of Scratch can support students’ development of these important 21st century skills.

Next, examine some of the project examples available at the Scratch website, http://scratch.mit.edu/.  You will need to download Scratch from the MIT website prior to looking at examples.  After examining examples of Scratch projects, download the NETS for Students attached as well.

The new standards identify several higher-order thinking skills and digital citizenship as critical for students to learn effectively for a lifetime and live productively in our emerging global society. These areas include the ability to:

  • Demonstrate creativity and innovation
  • Communicate and collaborate
  • Conduct research and use information
  • Think critically, solve problems, and make decisions
  • Use technology effectively and productively
Select a project and determine how students’ use of Scratch can meet the NETS for Students.

List the project name
